Technical note
Cold Galvanizing vs Hot-Dip Galvanizing for Steel in Pakistan
GalvoKote and hot-dip galvanizing use the sacrificial action of zinc, but they create very different physical coatings and fit different project constraints.

Evidence-based corrosion guidance
Read with the current GalvoKote TDS and project specification.
Hot-dip galvanizing is a factory process. Prepared steel is immersed in molten zinc, producing metallurgically bonded zinc-iron alloy layers with an outer zinc layer. Cold galvanizing compounds are applied at ambient temperature as zinc-loaded coating films.
Where hot-dip galvanizing is strongest
For new components that can be fabricated, transported, dipped and handled without damage or distortion, hot-dip galvanizing offers a robust factory route with complete immersion coverage.
Where cold galvanizing solves a different problem
Installed structures cannot always be removed and dipped. Weld repairs, field modifications, damaged galvanized areas, oversized steelwork and maintenance work need an onsite solution. This is where a genuine cold galvanizing compound is valuable.
About “equivalent to hot-dip” claims
Earlier reference information described the coating’s anti-corrosion performance as equivalent to hot-dip galvanizing and publishes laboratory and exposure data. That does not mean every cold-applied film has the same metallurgy, abrasion behavior or service life as every hot-dip galvanized coating in every environment.
Specification decisions should therefore consider the substrate, exposure category, surface preparation, coating thickness, access for future maintenance and the project standard.
Practical selection
Choose hot-dip galvanizing when new components can be processed in a galvanizing plant and the project specification calls for an immersion-applied zinc layer. Consider a cold galvanizing compound for field repairs, installed steel or areas that cannot be dipped, subject to the current product data sheet and site requirements.
